Under the banner of PMAP and the Community Relations program, PMAP Cebu has taken a pioneering step by joining forces with DOH Central Visayas (Subnational Blood Center) to promote and advocate for voluntary blood donation drives. This initiative marks a significant milestone as the first institutionalized program of its kind under the community relations wing of PMAP, showcasing the association’s dedication to the sustainability of this life-saving effort.
The primary objective of this collaboration is to address the pressing need for blood donors across Visayas and, by extension, the Philippines. The DOH has been actively campaigning to encourage more individuals to donate blood, emphasizing that each donation can save lives. The collaboration between PMAP Cebu and DOH aligns perfectly with this mission and serves as an urgent appeal to all PMAP member companies to support this noble cause.
One distinguishing feature of this initiative is its independence from commercial blood donation centers. The program offers free access to blood within hospitals, effectively waiving processing fees. This not only makes blood more accessible to those in need but also reinforces the belief that blood donation is a selfless act of love to serve fellowmen. As the Regional Director of DOH aptly puts it, “The blood is a commodity given out of love to serve your fellowmen.”
PMAP Cebu’s partnership with DOH holds immense promise in addressing the shortage of blood supply in the region. It underscores the power of collective action within the corporate community to contribute to the well-being of society. By championing voluntary blood donation drives and setting an example of humanitarianism, PMAP Cebu is not only enhancing its role in talent management but also making a substantial impact on the health and lives of countless individuals in Visayas. This collaboration is a shining testament to the organization’s commitment to making a positive difference beyond the workplace.
To start with their journey in this advocacy, PMAP and the DOH collaborated with Rotary International District 3860 and kicked off their first blood donation drive: Dugo Mo, Buhay ko at the GMALL’s Ground Floor, Mall Atrium. The blood donation drive went beyond the expectations of the organizers because of the high number of people who came and donated blood.
Everyone is encouraged to donate because this is not just beneficial to the people in need of blood but also because of the health benefits the blood donation has. To avail this blood service for free, you can go and inquire to the nearest Department of Health offices.
